Biography
Tool formed in Los Angeles in 1990, with vocalist Maynard James Keenan, guitarist Adam Jones, drummer Danny Carey, and bassist Paul D’Amour (later replaced by Justin Chancellor). The band quickly established themselves as one of the most unique and uncompromising acts in heavy music.
Their albums — Undertow, Ænima, Lateralus, 10,000 Days, and Fear Inoculum — are marked by their philosophical depth, intricate polyrhythmic structures, and elaborate visual presentations. The band resisted digital streaming until 2019, and their 13-year gap between 10,000 Days and Fear Inoculum became legendary. Their Grammy wins and record-breaking sales demonstrate that their uncompromising vision has found a massive global audience.
