Biography

Megadeth was founded in Los Angeles in 1983 by Dave Mustaine, who had recently been fired from Metallica. Driven by a desire to outplay his former bandmates, Mustaine assembled a band that would push thrash metal’s technical boundaries further than almost anyone else.

Albums like Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying?, Rust in Peace, and Countdown to Extinction established Megadeth as one of metal’s elite acts, with guitarist Marty Friedman’s contributions to the latter two albums representing some of the finest lead guitar work in the genre’s history.

Megadeth has sold over 38 million albums worldwide and won a Grammy Award in 2017 for Best Metal Performance.
