About
Inferno Metal Festival was founded in 2000 by Per Heimly and has become the most important extreme metal event in Scandinavia. Held each year during the Easter weekend in Oslo, the festival takes advantage of the religious holiday’s thematic resonance to present the darkest and most extreme music in the metal spectrum.
Unlike the broad-church approach of festivals like Wacken, Inferno maintains a strict focus on black metal, death metal, and related extreme subgenres, making it a haven for purists seeking authentic underground acts alongside more established extreme metal names.
The festival operates across multiple venues in Oslo, including the iconic Rockefeller Music Hall, giving it a unique urban character distinct from the typical open-air festival format.
