Biography

Iron Maiden was founded in Leyton, East London in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris. The band became one of the most successful heavy metal acts in history, selling over 100 million albums worldwide and becoming flag bearers of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.

Their signature sound — galloping bass lines, twin (and eventually triple) guitar harmonies, and soaring vocals from Bruce Dickinson — alongside their iconic skeletal mascot Eddie, created one of metal’s most recognizable identities.

Iron Maiden’s legacy is defined by landmark albums like The Number of the Beast, Powerslave, and Somewhere in Time, and by their reputation as one of the greatest live acts in rock history, supported by their private Boeing 747 nicknamed “Ed Force One.”
